We are so proud to announce the Mt. Pleasant High School CTE 2026 Scholar of the Year and the Cabarrus County Schools CTE Scholar of the Year: 

Torren Bumgarner!!

 

Torren has completed 12 CTE classes, Internship with Griffin Masonry, 2 CTE Advanced Study courses in which he project managed the construction of the 100^th Anniversary Wall. He has competed in Skills USA where most recently he placed 14 / 63 in Masonry 2. He scored a Platinum Level on the Work Keys Assessment. He created the Academy Summit which is mentorship program for our Academy freshmen. Torren was an Academy Ambassador for 2 years that traveled to the CCS Middle Schools for Program Choice. He was always present at Open House showcasing his love for the trades, speaking to parents and prospective students. Torren was also the runner up in the Mr. MP Pageant where he showcased his talent in brick laying. This was a huge fundraiser for the CTE department. He quickly got out of his comfort zone to raise money for CTE.  Torren will be continuing his studies at Appalachian State University.

Course Descriptions:

Interior Design Fundamentals- Honors

This class is the perfect mix of art and architecture! The class explores elements and principles of design through numerous hands-on projects and drawings. The class is very self-paced and allows students to display their own creativity while working through the design process and learning about the psychological needs of all people. This class is great for all students because it allows the student to anchor their projects to careers they are interested in, not just design. Aspects of construction, carpentry, real-estate, and graphic arts are incorporated throughout the semester.

 

 

Interior Design Studio - Honors

Students enrolling in Interior Design Studio must successfully complete Interior Design Fundamentals. This class develops student knowledge of principles and elements of design through the exploration of mock clients, large scale projects, and real-world scenarios. Students will use drawing and computer skills to create presentations and are required to have a portfolio at the end of the semester. Credentials Available: Pre-Professional Certification in Interior Design Fundamentals

 

 

Interior Design II  Technology - Honors

Introduces students to professional design software used in the interior design industry. Students learn Building Information Modeling (BIM), create floor plans and 3D renderings using Autodesk Revit, develop digital drafting skills, and build a professional portfolio while exploring careers in interior design and architecture.  Credentials Available: AutoDesk Certified User Revit

 

Electrical I, II, and III , IV Honors

Electrical Trades I

Introduces students to basic electrical theory, safety practices, tools, wiring methods, and residential electrical systems. Students learn how electricity works while gaining hands-on experience with circuits, devices, and basic installations. Credentials offered:  OSHA 10 Construction and NCCER Certifications (National Center for Construction Education and Research)

 

 

 

 

Electrical Trades II

Expands students’ knowledge of electrical systems through advanced wiring techniques, blueprint reading, conduit bending, and troubleshooting. Students continue developing technical skills used in residential and commercial electrical work. Electrical Trades III

Provides more advanced instruction in commercial and industrial electrical applications, including motor controls, electrical code, and system installation. Students strengthen problem-solving, leadership, and workplace readiness skills. Credentials offered:  NCCER Certifications (National Center for Construction Education and Research)

 

Electrical Trades IV

Prepares students for careers and postsecondary opportunities in the electrical industry through advanced electrical applications, project-based learning, and real-world experiences. Students refine technical, leadership, and employability skills while exploring pathways in apprenticeships, certifications, and industry careers. Masonry I, II, and III Honors

Masonry I

Introduces students to basic masonry skills, safety practices, tools, materials, and bricklaying techniques used in the construction industry. Students learn measurement, mortar mixing, blueprint reading, and how to construct simple masonry projects while developing employability and teamwork skills. Credentials offered:  OSHA 10 Construction and NCCER Certifications (National Center for Construction Education and Research)

 

 

Masonry II

Builds upon foundational masonry skills with more advanced brick and block laying techniques, project layout, construction math, and blueprint interpretation. Students gain additional hands-on experience while improving craftsmanship, productivity, and workplace readiness. Masonry III

Provides advanced training in masonry construction through complex projects, leadership opportunities, and real-world industry applications. Students refine technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and professionalism while preparing for careers, apprenticeships, and industry certifications in the masonry field. Entrepreneurship I & Entrepreneurship II (Honors – Level 2)

Explore the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur and business. Discover the role and impact of marketing, finance, and ethics on business profitability. Develop an entrepreneurial business idea using the Lean Canvas Business Model. Gain the knowledge and skills required to develop the entrepreneurial mindset necessary in a variety of career pathways. Utilize business planning strategies to accelerate the implementation of a business idea. Construct plans for risk management, staffing, and promotions. Develop a business plan complete with a SWOT analysis and action plan. Gain the knowledge and skills required to develop the entrepreneurial mindset necessary in a variety of career pathways.

Our goal is to accommodate enrolling Academy students in as many Academy classes as possible, but due to scheduling constraints, sometimes only 1 Academy course during Freshman Year is only possible due to Health and PE and the new Computer Science graduation requirement.
