New Morning Traffic Pattern for Car Riders at MPHS

Posted Date: 12/20/24 (8:24 PM)

Hello Tiger Families,

Mr. Tinnel here to talk with you about morning car rider arrival.  In order to help traffic flow during our morning arrival, beginning next semester, we will be creating a new traffic pattern during morning car rider drop offs.

The main change is this: Parents to the Left, Student Drivers to the Right.

As you turn onto the School Drive from Walker Rd, there are two lanes.  If you are a student driver or staff, stay in the right lane and continue your normal trip to the student parking lot.

If you are dropping a student off in the car rider line, stay in the left lane.  As you continue up the drive, you are going to drive against the normal traffic pattern for a short time before you turn in front of the school.

Again, Parents to the Left, Student Drivers to the Right.

As always, pull as far forward in the car rider line as you can.  If you are the front car, drive all the way to the end of the sidewalk before you stop.  If you are at the beginning of the sidewalk and traffic has stopped, feel free to let your student out to walk to the front doors.  Do not stop at the front doors to drop students off.

This traffic pattern will apply from 6:45am to 7:15am, or until the car rider line has slowed down. This plan will only be in place during morning arrival.  This will not apply to afternoon dismissal.

Question - What if I need to leave the student lot between 6:45 and 7:15?  First, if students are being dropped off, they should be dropped off in the car rider line and not in the student lot.  But, if someone is leaving the student lot at this time, they will need to exit through the car rider line in front of the school.

Question - How will I know I’m following the right directions?  Staff will be out at the beginning of this new pattern to help car riders follow the new pattern.

Question - What was the saying again?  Parents to the Left, Students to the Right.

Our goal with this pattern is to separate student drivers and car riders, which should help pull traffic off of Walker Rd. and generally help traffic move faster.

Thank you for working with us on this new plan and for your continued support of Mount Pleasant High School.  Go Tigers!
